Heartland Distillers American Gin Buck

Heartland Distillers American Gin Buck

The gin buck is an utterly forgotten cocktail from the 1920s, ’30s and ’40s. Nobody knows where it came from or why it’s called a buck, and nobody knows what happened to it. We’ve made it our mission to resurrect this forgotten favorite. Our Heartland Distillers American Gin goes perfect with the sweet, pungency of ginger beer and some fresh lime.

The negroni is an adaptation itself of the Americano. The Ameicano is a simple blend of Campari, vermouth and club soda. As the story goes the drink was invented in Florence, Italy in 1919 when Count Negroni asked for a slug of gin in his Americano in place of the club soda.

  1. The sprits ratio is usually 1:1:1 so go as big or as small as you wish, but this is a boozy spirit mix carefully. Start with a classic rocks glass and add in several large, clear ice cubes. Use fresh ice!
  2. Layer in the three spirits. Start with the clear gin and add the darker spirits next. Give it a quick stir.
  3. Garnish with a slice of orange.
Recipe Notes

Variations: Play around with the ratios, there is no agreed upon variation here.  Try our Spring Mill Bourbon in place of the gin for a Boulevardier. Get a bit fancier and mix in an ice filled shaker and then serve in a martini glass.
